6/12/2023 0 Comments The goblin emperor book 2Excepting the niceties of court life as a generality understood by most who have read high fantasy and taken at least one history course, the culture of the court, the naming and titular grammar, the function of the government, and all the rest are impeccably executed. The work of worldbuilding done here is staggering. But I persisted, lagging in my enthusiasm only slightly. Once the Emperor takes his throne, though, the reader crashes into the porcelain wall along with Maia (the lead character). I began the book with an intense amount of fervor, that same blast one feels on Christmas Morning maybe, the gust of which pushed me past the introduction and through the first few chapters with delight. 6/12/2023 0 Comments Strange the dreamerShe is such a strong female character and I loved that she was able to stand her ground and overcome her nightmares. My favourite character was Sarai, I loved how conflicted she was and how she fought everything for what she believed was right. There were some absolutely amazing characters in this book, not one of the characters were boring, they each had their own story and purpose which I really loved. The writing is lyrical and poetic and so calming, I felt genuinely relaxed whilst reading this book, I was completely taken away from reality. I would love to see the Citadel, it was described so beautifully and left me longing to be there and see Sparrows flowers and the wild dresses of the Gods. The descriptions grabbed you and carried you off to Weep. The writing was so beautiful for this novel. They have no way of leaving the Citadel and have to prepare for the return of the Godslayer. The second perspective is Sarai, a Godspawn who survived the Carnage of her kind and who, along with 4 others, is now stuck in a Citadel suspended above Weep. The story follows him on his journey to Weep and what occurs whilst he is there. He has dedicated most of his life to learning and understanding the city and wondering at the many mysteries and myths concerning The Unseen City, whose name was lost to all. Strange the Dreamer follows the perspective of Lazlo Strange, a librarian working with scholars, who is obsessed with the mysterious city of Weep.
